Kris Letang returns to the Penguins; scores 3 goals!

Calgary Flames vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (Dec. 12)

Defenseman Kris Letang extended Pittsburgh’s lead with a goal in his first game back from groin injury that caused him to miss five games. Simon Despres took a slap shot from the point, and Letang tipped it past Hiller to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead, 4:43 into the period.

“Kris Letang adds so much to our team,” Penguins coach Mike Johnston said. “He jumps up into the play. He breaks out clean in our zone. … We have a nice balance to our defense group. [Rob] Scuderi’s a guy who’s a very reliable, shutdown guy. Paul Martin can play both ways, [Christian] Ehrhoff, and then you have Letang, who can jump up the ice and create. Source

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (Dec. 13)

Columbus got shootout goals from Cam Atkinson and Ryan Johansen for a 2-0 lead before Letang scored for the Penguins. After Foligno’s shot was stopped by Greiss, Bobrovsky made a save on Brandon Sutter.

“We played really well [in] the third period,” Letang said. “We were really after them. We earned that point.”

Letang’s shorthanded goal put the Penguins ahead 2-1 earlier in the third period. The goal came 11 seconds into a Blue Jackets power play and was started by Craig Adams sending a pass to himself off the boards at the Columbus right point past defenseman James Wisniewski.

Adams and Letang had a 2-on-1 that was completed when Letang took the pass and roofed a backhander past Bobrovsky.
