Kris Letang gets a ‘maintenance’ off day from practice

After recording two blocked shots during Wednesday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins — at least one left him in noticeable pain — Penguins defenseman Kris Letang missed practice Thursday at Southpointe.

“We kept Kris off the ice today, a little bit of a maintenance day,” coach Mike Johnston said. “He should be fine.”

Letang played a game-high 27:28 and finished with eight shot attempts, two on goal. It’s his second maintenance day in eight days. Johnston rested Letang on New Year’s Day for an injury Johnston said was bugging Letang a few days earlier.
