Great short piece on Kris and his responsibility on the Penguins – Post Gazette
This quote from the Post Gazette Penguins Notebook article from Oct. 11 – is really great. It gives insight to how Kris’ playing on the Pens, his thoughts on the injury that ended his season last year and more.
GLENDALE. Ariz. â Kris Letang logged 28:18 of ice time in the Penguinsâ 3-0 loss Thursday at Dallas.
Thatâs one of the highest totals in the league through the early days of this season.
And the kind of workload Letang doesnât mind shouldering.
âItâs something we talked about, to get ice time like that,â he said before the Penguins faced Arizona Saturday night at Gila River Arena.
He added that it âwould be greatâ to get that kind of playing time every game, although he was quick to point out that the amount of special teams work on a given night can have an impact on how much he is on the ice.
Letang also led the Penguins in shots in the opener with eight, and he plans to make a conscious effort to shoot as much as possible.
âTo get the puck on the net creates things that guys are not expecting that much,â he said. âItâs something I want to put into my game, too. Itâs a mindset to have, to score more goals, create more offense.â
The Coyotes game was just Letangâs second since Arizona winger Shane Doan knocked him into the boards March 28Â at Consol Energy Center, giving him a concussion that forced him to sit out the final seven games of the regular season as well as the Penguinsâ first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers.
Letang said that sequence is âalways going to be on my mind,â but doesnât appear to have any hard feelings.
âIt was a hockey play,â he said. âNot necessarily a dirty play.â
