Penguins raise the Championship banner, beat the Washington Capitals 3-2 in shootout!

Before the game was underway against the Capitals, Kris Letang and the Penguins had the 2016 Stanley Cup Championship banner raising ceremony. Sidney Crosby skated out with the Stanley Cup and join his teammates to watch the banner be raised in PPG Paints Arena. What a great celebration and end to a fantastic year for the Penguins. Kris Letang starts off the season with flair and great endurance. His total ice time was 30:40 and he got an assist (1 point) on the 2nd period Patric Hornqvist goal. Kris had 4 shots and 5 hits and 4 blocked shots. As expected against the Capitals, a physical game was played by both teams. The Penguins won 3-2 in a shootout!

“We use him in all key situations both offensively and defensively,” head coach Mike Sullivan said. “That’s why he logs the minutes he logs. That’s why for me he’s one of the top defensemen in the league.

“I don’t think Letang gets the credit he deserves for his defensive play and his play away from the puck. His offense speaks for itself. I don’t get he gets nearly enough credit he deserves for how good he is defensively.” – Credit / Snapshots
