Penguins defense can’t hold the Capitals, lose 7-1

The Penguins lost to the Capitals 7-1 at the Verizon Center. It was a tough loss for the Penguins as the Capitals’s net pressure and offense was in full force. Looking at the highlights (or lowlights depending on your perspective), the Penguins defense was not the best.

There’s no way I can spin this to a positive game recap post, but I know the Penguins will turn it around in their next game against the New York Islanders.

Inconsistent mindset leading to lopsided road losses for Penguins

The Penguins couldn’t even attempt to erase a 3-0 deficit after the first period because they spent most of the second killing penalties.

“Came out flat,” Kris Letang said. “Take over the game with special teams. They never looked back.”

Evgeni Malkin summed up the Penguins’ night this way: “Everything was awful. Power play, too. … They scored lots of goals.”

The three road duds have come in all sorts of situations, with varying context.
